St. David’s Cathedral SVP
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul – better known as the SVP – is a worldwide society of lay Catholics dedicated to outreach within their local community to any person who is in need, especially those living in social isolation.
About us – what we do
After an absence from the Cathedral parish of 40 years, the SVP was re – established under the guidance of Rev. Canon Peter Collins in 2019.
The members of the SVP answer the call of the Church to befriend those who are lonely and those who are isolated within the Cathedral parish. We go to them, spend time with them, talk with them. We keep a link going between them and the Cathedral community from which, for whatever reason, they may have become distant. Often the reasons for this are advancing age, loss of mobility, ill health, dementia and a range of other factors.
In addition, we are sometimes in a position to offer practical assistance to people in need, for example with donations of furniture or other essentials.
At the end of this information, you will find the dedicated SVP telephone number if you would like to call to talk about help for yourself or for someone else.
About you – what you can do
More than anything you can pray for the work of the SVP and for the people it supports.
