“A chapter of canons, whether cathedral or collegial, is a college of priests which performs more solemn liturgical functions in a cathedral or collegial church. In addition, it is for the cathedral chapter to fulfil the functions which the law or the diocesan bishop entrusts to it” (Can. 503)
The Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter was erected on 12th March 1920. The Cathedral Chapter act as the Collage of Consultors.

On 17th June 2020, Archbishop George appointed Fr. David Hayman to the Chapter of Canons. Canon Hayman was installed into the Chapter at Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, 8th December 2020. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is the patronal feast of the Archdiocese. Photographs of the Chapter Mass can be found here.
During the Chapter Meeting on 8th December 2020, the Canons voted Canon John Kelly as Provost, succeeding Canon John Maguire. Canon John Kelly is Parish Priest of St. Helen’s Parish, Caerphilly, and Chair of the Liturgy Commission.
