The Aquinas Study Group
The Aquinas Study Group was established by Canon Peter Collins several years ago as a way of reflecting upon the different aspects of the faith we profess. As authentic disciples, we are called by the Lord to be credible witnesses of the resurrection, always being ready to “make a defence to anyone who asks you for the hope that is in you” (1Pet. 3:15).
The Aquinas Study Group are a series of talks arranged around a particular theme, under the patronage of St. Thomas Aquinas. Guest speaks are invited to give talks on a range of topics, reflecting these themes, documents of the Church, or their own testimonies, as avenues to deepen our faith. No formal study of theology is necessary to participate in the Aquinas Study Group.
This season of talks will reflect the different aspects of the Year of the Word, called for by the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales. The talks will use Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation, Verbum Domini, as a springboard for reflection. You can download the document from the Vatican website using the resources section below.
The talks will take place on the Thursdays of November, leading up to the season of Advent and the inauguration of the Year of the Word. The talks will begin at 7:00pm, and conclude with the Celebration of Night Prayer from the Divine Office.
